When most of the furniture at home is in place, then the real fun of dressing the space begins. This is the time to let one's hair down and go to town for fun and funky Home Decor accessories that bring a gleam to the eye. |
With the turn of the century, homes and the spaces around them have begun to look more than just chic; they look positively enchanting with modern and contemporary design. Designers are on their toes, turning out unique items that are deceptively simple in appearance yet enduring in their detail and finish. A simple thing like a fireplace is no longer just to heat a space. Reaching beyond the ordinary into a realm of art that is still being explored, modern accessories are fasting becoming objects of envy. |

Fireplace Accessories - Outdoor Fire Pit
Take designer Carsten Gallnick's Outdoor Fire Pit as an example. One would need to be sturdy-hearted to throw in a couple of logs to light that piece of sculpture, but good as it looks, the stainless steel 14" diameter cylinder is supported by stable legs that can take quite a beating with panache. Gallnick's designs in high-level product-concepts have often been described as sensuous, vital and passionate. |

Fireplace Accessories - Firescreen
Clearly a winner with elementary geometric shapes Peter Maly's way with timeless; exquisitely executed designs have long been in the lead on the International circuit. We zero in on his fireplace ensemble that is a simple sheet of rectangular heat resistant glass Firescreen allowing heat to radiate through while preventing sparks from escaping, matched with accessories like the Fireside log stand. This converts an ordinary fireplace into an elegant, yet practical piece of art. The gently contoured flat sheet of high-grade stainless steel for holding logs, with leather handles on either side can be matched with a functionally arranged tool kit also in stainless steel.
We can see why whole exhibitions were dedicated to this designer in 2002 in Berlin entitled 'Peter Maly, a Classic Artist of Modern Design'. |

Garden of Eden Mug and Saucer
Then there are other modern object design items that jerk you out of lethargy and the mundane with their vigor and vim. Designer Kenny Scharf has a hand that turns ordinary household articles into cleverly sculpted objects that have their uses, like the Garden of Eden mug and saucer that works magic over an early cup of coffee. Influenced by TV imagery, Pop Art and street culture, his ideas spring up in paintings, functional objects and unexpectedly; just about anywhere. Scharf's design of the two faced Happy/Snappy mug smoothly morphs from the yellow smiling happy face to a blue stern face resting on a matching saucer. |

The Spacify website is perfect for online gift shopping with items as diverse as they are unique. A close look at what the versatile genius in James Marshall (Dalek) designs can be full of surprises. Formerly a musician, Marshall injured his hand in a plane crash putting paid to his music career. He moves with the beat of a different tune in the design field. Each piece Dalek now creates is done to charm young and old alike, particularly with his favorite Space Monkey Figure. Using this as a template he has turned out a unique baby toy made of resin that has a unique eyeball, which fits into the stomach hole or the hole in the back of the hand! |

Shower Curtains
For older kids Marshall’s Space Monkey once more figures at the bottom of Dalek Deck, a set of brightly colored skateboards that can be hung across a wall or used with pride on the playfield.
Then Marshall came up with an all time favorite, PVC shower curtains that he whimsically calls Crazy Monkey, once again featuring Space Monkey. |
