Famous for creating buildings that resemble sculptural art, architect Frank Gehry was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1929. Moving to California when he was 17, he studied at the Los Angeles City College and then specialized in architecture at the University of Southern California. Gehry who also studied city planning at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and is a naturalized American has designed several museums, educational institutes and concert halls. His most famous buildings feature bold curves and unusual shapes, including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park in Chicago. Buildings designed by Gehry dot the globe, including Hanover and Rhein Germany, Prague Czech Republic, Paris France and Dundee Scotland, besides several cities in the United States. His widely acclaimed works have won him many awards, among them the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1989, the National Medal of Arts in 1998 and the Companion of the Order of Canada in 2002. Gehry also designs modern furniture, which too feature unique curves.
