Le Corbusier, (1887-1965), was actually born Charles Edouard Jeanneret but took the pseudonym “Le Corbusier” from the name of a relative in 1920. Working in the studio of the Parisian architect Perret, Le Corbusier built his first house at the age of eighteen. He went on to plan low cost housing complexes, based on the concept that buildings could be utilized for many different tasks by being constructed of superimposable units. His revolutionary ideas set the standard for modern design. Le Corbusier was already well-known for his architectural accomplishments when he began experimenting with furniture design in 1928. The creations of patio furniture were the result of a collaborative effort between himself, architect Charlotte Perriand and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, whom oversaw production. Their revolutionary works of outdoor chaise lounge chair forged their way into the forefront of “Modern Classics” with the innovative use of steel tubing as an element of design rather than structure. Le Corbusier also designed chaise lounge chair sofa for Furnzionalismo.
