An ace all-rounder in the art community, Spain’s Javier Mariscal wears many hats. He is an illustrator, a comic book writer, landscape architect, interior designer, textile designer and much, much more. Born in Valencia in 1950, Mariscal was trained at the Graphic School in the city of Barcelona, where he has been based since 1971. In the late 1980s he set up Estudio Mariscal. Through his career so far Mariscal has created Internet animation and comic characters, designed a playground at the Nagasaki theme park, designed furniture for Magis, designed textiles for Nani Marquina, created Cobi – the two-dimensional dog that was chosen as the mascot for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 – and even staged the theatrical production Colors to coincide with his fiftieth birthday.
