Among the most widely respected contemporary rug designers in the world, American artist and designer Emma Gardner draws deeply from her experience in creating cover art for publications. Her rugs, throws and pillows are distinctive in their composition and use of color. Born in Kyoto, Japan, Gardner grew up in Connecticut and New York City. Now based in Litchfield, Connecticut, she founded Emma Gardner Design along with her husband Patrick McDarrah in 2002 and has been creating rugs for architects and interior designers since. Gardner previously worked as editor and illustrator for several top magazines, including as editor-in-chief of PHYS.COM, Conde Nast’s online health and fitness publication. Her handmade book I View was displayed at Parson’s Gimbell Library during a group show.
