Mart Stam in fact started the revolution of applying steel tubing to furniture for the home, which was one of the most dramatic innovations in 20th century design, creating a radically new profile for chairs, dining tables, coffee tables and desks. This industrial development also transformed expectations of the domestic environment from one characterised by bulky upholstered chairs and sofas, to that of cool, clean simplicity. This design, presented to the public in 1927, became an important piece in the history of modern design. Built on the same lines is the Mort Stam Steel Tube Side Chair- a contemporary piece of furniture with a tubular metal frame with seat and back in high quality leather. The side chair is also welded with anti-tip devices.The seat and back are upholstered in leather that comes in four different shades-Black, Brown, Red and White.
